January 31 - February 4
Mandala Project
All this week we'll be working on a Mandala project. A mandala (from our vocabulary) is a circular geometric design symbolizing the universe. Our mandalas will be drawn on a pattern that I will hand out to the students. Each mandala should have five symbols representing five basic Hindu beliefs. Use the worksheet to create your symbols. Then draw and color the symbols on the mandala. Make your mandala as visually appealing as possible. Then draw five more symbols around the border of your artwork that symbolize the way those beliefs influenced life in India.
This project will be due on Friday.

January 24 - January 28
In Social Studies we're learning about India. We'll be working in our workbooks doing Geography chapter 3 and Reading Notes 15. Friday we'll be introducing Mandala. For more information about mandalas, click here to view Wikipedia's description.

Jan 18 - Jan 21
In Social Studies this week we'll be studying chapter 12 in our History books about "The Struggle to Preserve Judaism". We'll be learning about the Jewish Diaspora. On Wednesday we'll be doing an activity in class about this chapter. Assignments for this activity will be due on Thursday.
Friday we'll be doing a Geography Challenge on India. Geography challenge uses question cards and a map in our workbooks. Students work with partners and each group has a question card. When that card has been answered, students work on another question card until all the questions have been answered. If this assignment is not completed in class, students can take home the full list of questions and their workbook to complete it as homework. We'll probably finish working on our India challenge in class Monday.
